INCLUDE (Inclusive Livestock Development for Smallholder Farmers)

Time frame: April 2024 to March 2029
Total Budget: EUR 17.2 MILLION

The Inclusive Livestock Development for Smallholder Farmers (INCLUDE) Project is a five-year (April 2024 – March 2029) initiative funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and implemented by SNV, with a budget of EUR 17.2 million. The project aims to improve the livelihoods and resilience of 75,000 smallholder farmers in Kigezi, Greater Ankole, Rwenzori, and Busoga by promoting sustainable, high-frequency livestock based practices and enhancing market access. Additionally, 37,500 acres of agricultural land will be brought under improved management through the Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP) approach. The project also supports school feeding programs, advocating for milk inclusion in student diets for improved nutrition. The project’s vision is to promote equitable, sustainable, and resilient livelihoods for smallholder farmers.

Yoba for Life Foundation plays a key role in two critical areas:

  1. Establishing Joint Community Marketing Groups (CMGs) – These groups will help smallholder farmers enhance collective bargaining power, improve milk quality, and stabilize incomes by leveraging shared resources and accessing larger markets more effectively.
  2. Promoting Value Addition to Milk through Probiotic Yoghurt Production and School Yoghurt Feeding Programs (SYP) – By supporting probiotic yoghurt production, Yoba aims to enhance nutritional value, increase market potential, and improve access to nutritious dairy products in schools, ensuring long-term sustainability of the initiative.

Through these activities, Yoba for Life Foundation will contribute to economic empowerment, food security, and sustainable dairy sector growth in Uganda.
